Tips to Make Your Fake Tan Last Longer

Are you looking for ways to make your fake tan last longer? You’re not alone. Fake tans are a great way to give yourself an instant glow and bronze skin, but they don’t always last as long as we would like them to. Fear not! There are some tricks of the trade that will help you maintain your sun kiss glow for days on end. Here are 15 easy tips that can help your self-tanning mousse stay vibrant and beautiful for longer.

1. Prep Your Skin

Exfoliating Mitt

Before applying self-tanner, it's important to exfoliate your skin to remove dead skin cells. Exfoliating will help create a smooth canvas for your self-tan mousse. This will result in a more even application and help your fake tan last longer and will help you apply an even streak-free application

2. Shave or Wax

For best results, it's recommended to shave or wax at least 24 hours before applying self-tanning mousse. This will allow your skin to heal and pores to close, preventing the self-tanner from settling into any open pores and causing dark dots on your legs or other areas of the body.

 3. Moisturise Dry areas

After exfoliating, apply a moisturiser to your skin. This will help your skin retain moisture and prevent the self-tanner from settling into dry patches. The dry patches often found around your heels, elbows, knees and feet will cause the self-tanner to overdevelop in these areas and with lower quality products develop orange in these areas or darker colours. So moisturise these to make sure they are hydrated.

4. Apply tanning lotion in Sections

To avoid a sticky feeling, wait for your skin to dry and cool down before applying the self-tanning mousse. Apply the mousse in sections, starting with your legs and using circular motions. Use the colour guide coat included with the mousse to ensure even application, which will show up as a caramel colour. Take care to use a sufficient amount of tanning foam on the glove. Apply to the whole body. All our Self-tanning mousse has a fragrance to hide the smell self-tan can have.

5. Use a Mitt or a glove and a tanning brush

To avoid streaks and achieve a consistent tan all over your body, it's recommended to use a tanning mitt. Look for a mitt with a plastic lining to prevent tanning mousse from getting on your hands and causing them to turn orange. For more precision in tricky areas like your face or hands, a tanning brush may be more helpful than a mitt. This will help achieve a great colour all over and make it easy to apply

6. Don't Over apply your self-tanning mousse

It's better to apply two light coats of your tanning product than one heavy coat. This will help prevent streaks and ensure an even application. This will also allow mousse to dry quickly.

7. Make sure your self-tanning mouse is completely dry

Make sure to let your self-tanner dry completely before getting dressed or going to bed. This will prevent the self-tanner from rubbing off on your clothes or sheets.

8. Avoid water to allow your tanning mousse to develop

Avoid getting your skin wet for at least 8 hours after applying self-tanning mousse. This will give the tanning mouse time to fully develop.

9. Avoid Sweating from exercising

Avoid sweating for at least 8 hours after applying self-tanner. Sweat can cause the self-tanner to streak and not allow a natural colour to develop.

10. Avoid Tight Clothing

Avoid wearing tight clothing for at least 8 hours after applying self-tanner. Tight clothing can rub against your skin and cause the self-tanning mousse to rub off. Also, avoid light colour clothes as self-tan mousse could rub onto them.

 11. Don't Shower Too Soon

Wait at least 8 hours before showering after applying self-tanner. This will give the self-tanning mouse time to fully develop. Use just water for the wash off and avoid exfoliating scrub and use only neutral PH soaps

 12. Use a Gradual to medium self-tan Mousse

Using a gradual self-tanning mousse can help prolong your fake tan and give you a more natural-looking tan for longer. Try our invisible self-tanning mousse.

 15. Reapply your Tan Mousse

To prolong your fake tan, reapply self-tanner every 5-6 days. This will ensure that your tan stays even and doesn't fade quickly. If you pay for Spray tan application this can become costly so the best idea is to make your tan last as long as possible between applications
